Chalk Jar DIY

For today's DIY, I made this chalk jar decoration thing. I'm not really sure what to call it, but I like it and I think it looks cute.

For this DIY you will need..
-Chalk (colored or white is fine)
-An Empty Jar (size depends on amount if chalk)
-Food Coloring (enough to make all colors of the rainbow)
-Knife or Scissors
-Old Pen (used to mix)
-Cardboard (this is optional, but it's a good idea to cover your work surface)
-Gloves (I didn't use them, but it's a good idea if you don't want your hands stained)
-Water

Let's get started!

The first thing you want to do is clean your jar and remove all the labels. If you bought a jar, you can skip this step. My label came of fairly easily, but if yours won't come off some goo-be-gone should do the trick.

Next, you want to remove the wrappers off of all your chalk, if they have any labels.

Next cut up your chalk into color groups. You want them to generally be the same tone, but sometimes you may have to improvise. I only had 1 piece of yellow chalk, when I needed 4 pieces if chalk per color.

Next, you want to add some water and food coloring, and mix it all together. You may want all your chalk to be the same solid blue, or you may want splotches of diffrent blues. It's up to you. I then used a pen to mix everything together.

After, layer each color ontop if each other.

Since I had some space ontop, I filled it with these white stones I had.

In the end it looked very pretty with all the bright colors. I hope you try out this DIY, and if you do, send me pictures on Instagram, @jennasweetcakes
